Microsoft Teams Reflect

Microsoft has started deploying an exciting new feature to M365 for Education. Reflect is as the name suggests a self-reflection feature now built into MS Teams. Reflect is now front and centre as a tab in MS Teams. The purpose of the feature is to create a moment for a student to pause and reflect on their current emotion and over time increasing their emotional vocabulary and awareness of their peers.

Reflect also gives the teacher a gauge on emotional sentiment amongst their students, creating an opportunity to share as a class group or give an indication that a particular student may need some further discussion.

The setting in Reflect provide different levels of anonymity, it’s important to discuss the level of personal attribution with students before launching into Reflect. Some teachers may use the opportunity to get class agreement on how they want to share and what visibility there is of their responses.

I hope this new feature doesn’t remain restricted to Education Microsoft tenants, as the feature could be an invaluable tool in the workplace. One apparent irritation is that the Reflect tab appears in all Team types if your are an educational tenant rather than just ‘Class’ teams.
